Orthograde Endodontic Retreatment With Composite Core

Patient E presented with a broken down tooth 36. The tooth had been previously endodontically treated several years prior, and the tooth restored with composite resin. Over the years, the patient developed secondary caries and breakdown of tooth 36. She wanted to rehabiltaite her teeth, and her referring dentist requested that the tooth 36 be retreated and a core placed. Orthograde endodontic retreatment was performed for the tooth over two visits with calcium hydroxide dressing.

At the first visit, the tooth was accessed and old gutta-percha remnants removed using retreatment files D1, D2, D3. The shaping of the three canals was achieved with ProTaper Next instrumentation X1, X2.

Three weeks after debridement was completed Patient E was a The tooth was obturated with gutta-percha and AH Plus sealer.

A composite resin restoration core was placed. An orthodontic band was utilised as a matrix for the composite buildup.

The endodontic review is scheduled for 6 months.
