Cancelling an appointment

Please allow at least one day’s notice when cancelling an appointment and call us during office hours. This will allow us to offer your appointment time to patients on our waiting list.

What Should I Bring to My Dental Specialist Appointment?

Bring the following items to ensure your first consultation runs smoothly and your specialist has all the information they need to diagnose your condition accurately.
  • Your referral letter from your general dentist (if applicable)
  • Any X-rays, scans, or imaging from your dentist
  • A list of all current medications (including supplements)
  • Your private health fund card or details
  • Photo ID (driver's licence or passport)
  • A list of any questions you would like to ask your specialist
If you do not have a referral, you are still welcome to book. Let us know when you call and we will guide you through the process. Arriving 10 minutes early allows time to complete any required paperwork.

What Happens at Your First Visit to a Dental Specialist?

Your first appointment at Australian Dental Specialists in Norwest is a consultation, not a treatment visit. The purpose is to diagnose your condition, explain your options, and give you a clear treatment plan with costs before any work begins.

During this appointment:

  • Medical and dental history review: Our team will review your medical history and any medications you are taking to identify any factors that may affect treatment.
  • Clinical examination: Your specialist will examine the area of concern, including the teeth, gums, and surrounding structures.
  • Diagnostic imaging: X-rays or a CBCT (3D) scan may be taken on-site if needed for accurate diagnosis.
  • Diagnosis and discussion: Your specialist will explain their findings in plain language, discuss your treatment options, and answer your questions.
  • Treatment plan and estimate: You will receive a clear, itemised treatment plan with an estimate of costs before any treatment begins.

First consultations typically last 30 to 60 minutes. In some straightforward cases, treatment may be able to commence on the same day if you wish.

Do I Need a Referral to See a Dental Specialist?

A referral is helpful but not mandatory. Most of our patients are referred by their general dentist, which ensures we have your dental history and any relevant imaging before your appointment. However, we are happy to see self-referred patients.

If you are self-referring, please let us know which specialist you would like to see (endodontist for root canal or pain issues, or periodontist for gum disease or implants) and a brief description of your concern when you book.

For referring dentists: You can download a referral form from our Contact page or email referrals directly to our practice. We will schedule your patient promptly and send you a detailed treatment report after every appointment.

How Much Does Treatment Cost and What Can I Claim?

We provide detailed, itemised cost estimates before any treatment begins so you can make informed decisions with no surprises. Here is what you need to know about payment at our Norwest practice.

  • Health fund claims: We accept all major private health funds and have a HICAPS machine on-site for instant claims processing. You pay only the gap on the day. The amount you can claim depends on your level of cover.
  • Payment methods: Cash, cheque, Visa, MasterCard, and EFTPOS.
  • Treatment estimates: You will always receive a detailed cost estimate before treatment begins, so there are no surprises.

What If I Am Anxious About Seeing a Dental Specialist?

Dental anxiety is common and nothing to be embarrassed about. Our team at Australian Dental Specialists in Norwest is experienced in helping anxious patients feel comfortable, and we offer multiple sedation options to suit your needs.

  • Tell us about your concerns when you book. Our team will take note and ensure your specialist is aware before your appointment.
  • Nitrous oxide (happy gas) is available for mild to moderate anxiety. It takes effect within minutes and wears off quickly after treatment.
  • IV sedation is available in partnership with an oral surgeon for patients who need deeper relaxation. If you would like IV sedation, please mention this when booking so we can arrange it in advance.
  • Our practice provides a supportive environment designed to feel calm and welcoming, and our team takes extra care with anxious patients at every stage of their visit.

What Are Your Opening Hours?

Our Norwest practice is open Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 5:00pm. Weekend appointments are available by arrangement for patients who cannot attend during the week.

Where Can I Park at Australian Dental Specialists?

Visitor parking is available in the Nexus Building at 4 Columbia Court, Norwest. During busy periods, additional paid parking is available at the Visy Dior Hotel directly opposite the building. Free on-street parking is also usually available nearby.

How Do I Get to Australian Dental Specialists by Public Transport?

Our Norwest practice is easily accessible by train and bus. Norwest Metro station is a short walk from our practice at 4 Columbia Court, providing direct access from across Sydney's North West via the Sydney Metro Northwest line. Bus services also run along Norwest Boulevard with stops near the practice.

Reason: The reference to a train service "available in 2019" is outdated. The Sydney Metro Northwest has been operating since 2019 and should be referenced by its current name.

We offer timely appointments to ensure you receive the care you need when you need it. From endodontics to periodontal therapy, our specialists manage every aspect of your dental health with expertise and comprehensive post-operative support.

Your smile is our priority—experience the difference with our specialist care today.
